Historical background of the ANCIENT mayan civilization
The Mayan Empire was a dominant religion located in Mesoamerica and was located in a stable geographical area. The Mayan Empire was found along the Yucatan Peninsula, the majority of Central America and parts of lower Mexico. When, the civilization began they spoke one major language but as time went on they developed the ability to speak over seventy languages. The Mayan’s lived in three sub-areas that were vastly different from each because of the environment.
The Preclassic Period, set around 1800 B.C, was the earliest form of the Mayan Civilization, they were simple and known to be agricultural. During, this Middle Preclassic time period, the Olmecs became the predominant Mesoamerican people. As well, during this time period, they developed pyramid building skills and engraved in stone monuments. The Last of the Preclassic period, created some of the greatest cities ever built in pre-Columbian Americans. The Golden Age of the Mayan Empire or the Classical Period developed forty cities. The cities were surrounded by framers that kept the city cultivated. There cities had basketball courts and temples in which they worshiped their Gods. They had the ability to create cities in the rainforest. The cities that were located in the higher lands were very well developed and had a system of integration. While the cities in the lowlands did not need an integration system because the rivers provided them water. Around 900 A.D, the Mayan Civilization had a mysterious decline. |
