mAYANS IN POPULAR CULTURE
2012 Superstition - "The End of the World?"
Only a couple years back, people in society believed that the world was going to end. The concept of the 2012 superstition originated from the Mayan calendar. Many people believed in this craze that it was portrayed in the movie, 2012. The "near-total destruction" of earth represented in the movie were symbolized by the predictions the Mayans made thousands of years before. Clearly, "the end of the world" did not happen. The Mayan people supposedly cleared this theory, and professed that 2012 was just an end of an era on the Mayan calendar (based on the moon, stars, and sun). |
