Artistic Expression
Art plays a huge role in India. It tells stories and connects
the emotions behind it. In India, art is expressed through dancing, singing,
acting, and paintings. It is the very heart of the religion. The paintings and
sculptures have specific symbols to underline the gods and goddesses power.
Each arm, object, and legs are done in a specific posture. In
dancing, each hand movements contains a different meaning making it very
important to perfect the art. Many of temples date back as far as
1000-1300 B. C. Hindus personal style when it came to architecture was
sculpting images and figurines.
The Shiva Nataraja is one of the oldest paintings ever done in India. This painting contains different symbols and meanings which can vary from person to person. She is painted dancing which is called "Anandatandava" which symbolizes the cycle of creation and destruction. According to experiencehinduism.com each symbol represents a specific meaning. Symbols:
The sculptures in Hinduism are
important because the sculptures that people worship are about the gods they
believe in. For example Brahma who is the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and
Shiva the destroyer. The first generic example of Hindu sculpture was Shiva
“ruler of dance”, the sculpture was introduced to India and is still produced
today. The sculpture signifies the perfect of Shiva art, combining visual
beauty with the symbolic meaning that intensifies the visual power.
