The Aztec Origins
Coatlicue, the earth mother
swam in the black waters of chaos which was filled of nothingness until she
gave birth to the moon and the stars including Coyolxauhqui. One day when she
was sweeping, she found a ball of hummingbird feathers and tucked them into her
dress. She later discovered she was pregnant, Coyolxauhqui and her hundreds of
siblings were angry and wanted to destroy the infant, but then Huitzilopchtli
also known as the sun god was born. He emerged with his burning sword, fully
armored, he cut Coyolxauqui in half. Her bottom body created the oceans and her
top half created the skies. She became known as the moon goddess. Quetzacoat,
the father serpent created the first humans out of ashes. However, he sent a
flood to wipe the humans because they had forgotten their creator. All humans
except two, Teta and Nena who were not greedy, were instructed to search for
the tallest and strongest hollow tree in the forest so they can live. The other
humans turned into fish, Teta and Nena has survived and repopulated the Earth.
