The language spoken by the Aztec was called Nahuatl.This was also the language of the majority of the people in Central Mexico and large parts of Mesoamerica. Nahuatl writing had three primary functions: to mark calendrical dates, to record accounting mathematical calculations, and to write names of people and places.
